Another hard run

I woke up so stiff and sore this morning and I nearly didn't go for a run, but I made myself do it. I am also so tired, the fireworks around our neighbourhood at midnight, made it hard to sleep :(
30 mins on the M7 cycle path, as its a bit up and down, only did 3.64 km, but I really struggled today. My hips especially, are sooo sore :( They haven't been sore in a while, it was something that happened while I was pregnant and for only a little while after, so its weird they are so now.
Tomorrow will be my longest non-stop run yet (40 mins) with 10 mins walk either side. I will be trying my best not to walk. Not sure where I am going to run though.

Hard run

Todays run was hard. I went first thing, as today is going to be a hot day. It was a 30 min run, but only managed 3.79 km I have been faster.
My legs are aching from the huge increase in my pump weights. Hopefully will feel better tomorrow. Actually my arms are sooooo sore too.
Tomorrow is a 30 min hill run, and 6 x strides. Sunday is 10 min walk, 40 min run, 10 min walk and 4 x strides. Its going to be a hard workout that's for sure.
Need to make sure I am posting my food diary here too. Next meeting is not till next Sat, hoping for a good loss :)

A gain

OK so I gained 700g. But I am not overly upset about it, because I know it wasn't because I over ate or anything like that. I did increase my exercise, although I think I earned maybe 6 or so more bonus points than usual, so its probably not that either. I just have to remember its not a week to week thing, its a big picture that adds up as you go along. I know I can't have a loss each week, I just have to keep doing what I am doing and it will all catch up.
So the officially being in the 80's is another week away at least. I have also removed the batteries from the home scales and put them away. I really need to get out of the habit of daily weighing, as I was starting to get obsessed with them , I really don't want to get into that again, so NO MORE daily weigh-ins. Only meeting weigh ins. I am still undecided on a regular meeting, but am thinking the safest is an 8am Saturday meeting, as it means if we have something on that day I can still go. Its just finding that leader I click with, but maybe that won't happen and I need to just choose a meeting and stick to it. I hate changing all the time.
So for next week I will go on Saturday.

Woo

Pump kicked my butt today, I upped all my weights and really had to push to get through the tracks. Limbs are still slightly shakey now and the class finished an hour ago LOL.
30 min run tomorrow, might just do my 5km route and see what time I can do it in, even if longer than 30 mins. If I keep up yesterdays pace ill do it 37-38 mins. Ill be stoked if I can.
I ran into one of the leaders from my close WW meeting at the supermarket, it was very random, as id been worried about whether tonights meeting was on, I really want to go. And its on! Usual leader not there, but I don't mind, I just need a meeting. I am still undecided on a regular meeting though. I just can't decide. I want to pick one and stay with it, there are many I can choose from though, so will still think about it. Hopefully tonight will officially put me into the 80s, but who knows, I have had a couple of "moments" in the last few days, but earnt 24 exercise points, so it should be OK. Only need to lose 400g to get into the 80s, but I really am just not sure. Home scales will be hidden and I won't be weighing daily now, its just not good for your mindset at all.

Some photos

Crappy phone photos, real ones to come.
About a month ago 92 ish kg:

Today, just under 90 kg, belly is going down!

First week done and dusted

Ive really enjoyed this week, and have felt good after each of my planned days. The rest day is helpful, having one a week is definitely a good idea.
Today's run was a little harder, and I was pooped afterwards but still felt good.
I did 7 km all up.
10 min walking
35 mins running (no walking, woooo)
10 mins walking
4 x 100 m strides
then it was about another 7 mins to walk home, so still counted that.
I realised I would have done the 5km in just under 40 mins had I not walked the first km, so I am very happy. I did just follow the plan though, my average speed has really improved.
While running and feeling good, I had to keep reminding myself I am doing it to improve my fitness and stamina, and not my time at this stage. I kept speeding up, so had to remind myself to slow down.
Bring on the next week of training :D
Pump tomorrow, will up my weights for all tracks, not sure by how much just yet.

Ah didn't overdo it :D

YAY for me.
I wasn't going to have any pavlova, as I normally can't just stop at a little and over stuff myself, but I didn't do it yesterday. I had some and stopped there :D Xmas was low key for us, so wasn't a huge amount of food, just cold chicken, ham and salad.
Then I went for my 30 min run later in the arvo. It was soooo hot, we went to Olympic park, and there was tons of people there. I was meant to do a flat run, but it was a bit hilly where we went, so did a very slow 30 mins (3.2 km) but I did it so im happy. Today is my last training day of my first week and ive done exactly as planned (except the only 1/2 pump class I did the other day due to the creche coming to get me since they couldn't settle J). I am debating about whether to do a pump class this morning, and my planned run this afternoon (I hope the rain stays away so I can run, and its not as hot today, I don't want to run for 35 mins on the treadmill (10 min walks before and after) plus ive got to do 4 x 100 strides.

ooh and the last 2 mornings in a row ive been under 90 kg :D

Friday, December 24, 2010

Ah crap

Just when I was thinking I was doing so well, I went and tempted myself with pizza. We did make it, but it had the worst possible things on it, salami, ham, cabanossi, bacon and pineapple. It would have been fine had I not ate so much. So so grateful for the extra 49 points thats for sure.
I had also been planning to go to pump tonight, although its my rest day, but I decided to stay home with my family instead, then I ate the pizza wahhhhh!
Its been a long time since I ate till I was so stuffed like that, I felt so sick afterwards. We went for a nice walk though after dinner.
Tomorrow is a 3o min run. Will do that early before my family come over for lunch.
Will be salads and cold meat tomorrow, so won't be too bad food wise. I have made a pavlova, and ill think ill have to have none, rather that just a little, its too hard to just have a little bit for , I do love pavlova and cream and fruit though mmmmmm.

30 min hill run

Wasn't really that hilly, but it was a little up and down, and you can really see me slow down on the up parts LOL.
Did 30 mins and went 3.47 km, so happy with that. I did about 30 seconds walking back up the biggest hill, so im OK with how it went.
Tomorrow was meant to be a rest day, but because I only did 1/2 a pump class yesterday due to the creche coming to get me as they couldn't settle J, I will do one tomorrow night.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Day 3 of my new training plan

Pump again today, will not go as hard on the leg tracks as I did on Monday, need to save my leg strength for my next 2 runs.
Yesterday I did an easy (well not so easy LOL) 20 min run, no walking. I had to keep reminding myself to slow my breathing down. My average pace was 8 mins 30 sec kms ish. I did 2.38 km in the 20 mins, so happy with that. No speed involved at all yesterday. Legs are a little sore, well all muscles are, but nothing I can't handle. Tomorrow is a 30 min hill jog, so will use the M7 path, which is pretty up and down.
Looking forward to my next WI :D Bring on Tue! Although there is no meeting on Tue, but am thinking ill go on Wed night. I really need to have that time for me, I really struggle to concentrate when I have both of my children at the meeting.
I don't want to keep changing meetings, but I don't want to miss a week, and I want to go at night. I guess I am lucky in that I can choose from quite a few meetings.

Measurements

Total cm lost since August: Boobs - 10 cm Waist - 16 cm Arms - 3 cm Hips - 12 cm Thighs - 13 cm

My first 10 kg reward

This was my reward to myself for my first 10 kg lost since I joined WW. I will get one every 10 kg, the next one will be the chinese symbol for determination on my left forearm.
This one is the chinese symbol for inner strength.

Meeting today

I was quite excited to see this today when I got up:

It was my naked weigh in though, and unfortunately I can't weigh in naked at my meeting LOL.

My official meeting weight was 90.3 kg, so I am still happy with a 600g loss, especially due to where I am up to in my cycle.
So that brings me to 12 kg total since joining WW, and 26.7 kg since Jacob was born nearly 7 months ago.
Over the next few weeks I should have some pretty reasonable losses due to the extra exercise I am doing, but I know it will slow down again. No meeting next week, so should show a good number in 2 weeks time :D
20 min easy run tonight. So far am not too sore from last nights pump, but I know I will be, I really worked hard.

Official time for Sundays 5km

40 m 54 s YAY!
Last time was 43 m 45 s, so I am very happy. Next time I will be under 40 mins. I am surprised at the time, as my first km was really bad.
Looking forward to all my new training.
First day done, pump kicked my ass tonight, my limbs are like jelly. Although I did not enjoy going to the gym at night, it was so busy and so hard to get a carpark. Plus it was the xmas party, so there was an extremely loud dj, I must be too old for loud music now :p LOL
Meeting tomorrow, fingers crossed for a loss, but im not expecting my 1 kg sadly, and next week there is no meeting, so the meeting after ill be truly in the 80's :D

Sunday, December 19, 2010

Meeting tomorrow

I should lose something, but don't think ill be under 90 kg this time, but we shall see. Ive been quite bloated this week, stupid cycle :/ Being a woman sucks sometimes.
Yesterday was my running club 5 km, I am waiting for the official time to go up, as I didn't have my GPS watch working the first km, as I am still learning to use it properly, but its so frustrating when I realised it hadn't started. But someone told me I was in at about 41 mins, which I am happy with as my last SMC time was 43 mins 45 sec. My GPS watch said 31 mins 37 s for 4 km but the first km was very slow sadly, it took me a while to get going, while playing with my watch and then dropping my water bottle almost straight away. Arghhhh.
I am looking forward to my new training plan too, to get fitter and increase my stamina. Looking forward to running the 10 km in Feb with SMC. I decided I will enter the middle distances for Sri Chinmoy, first one is 27th Feb.
Its taken 4 months to lose my first 10 kg with WW, the next 10 kg is not going to take as long. Hopefully will be in the 70s by Gregs birthday in March.

Time to get serious.

This week I have not done much exercise and have been pretty slack food wise. I do blame my cycle, but that is no excuse really. Its time to step it up. I have got a training plan in place for the next few months, then will continue on with the 1/2 marathon training. I will start doing the 10 km SMC runs in Feb.

New meeting

I decided this morning on the spur of the moment to try a new meeting.
I am glad I did, this leader is pretty good, ive met her once before when she filled in for my last leader one night. I will def keep going to her meetings, although she also does a Monday night, which I might do next year, as today was a bit hard with my oldest child being quite loud while playing with another child and I couldn't concentrate as I am sure neither could the other women. I need that time for me I think. But next Tue ill go then the week after they are closed, same as the Monday following New years day, so ill go that Tue too, but then Monday's after that. I am not changing leaders again, so hopefully this one sticks around until after I am at goal. She said she had been a leader for 26 years which is awesome. At least I am sure that is what she said.
I did have breakfast this morning as I hadn't been planning on going to the meeting (I don't normally before a morning meeting) so I only lost 600g, but that is still OK. Bringing me to 90.9 kg and 11.4 kg in 19 weeks. My average is 500g per week which is what is OK while breastfeeding. So my one big week then a small week seems to work well. This week I am going to work really hard so I can get into the 80s before xmas as I had planned. Thankfully we are only going to my mothers for xmas day and ill be taking my own planned lunch, but I doubt there will be a huge amount of tempting food there. I am making a pavlova, so will allow for that, its nearly the end of my WW week on xmas day, but ill save my extra Pro-points for that day, just incase. But ill make sure I run, since the gym will be closed (so won't be able to do pump).
Geez if I keep losing 500g per week average, its going to take me over a year to get to goal. No way, I am going to be there in 10 months, by the time I am 30, so better move my ass.
Ill take a progress pic once I see that 8 on the scales :D Should see it at home sometime this week.

Still trying to choose a meeting

I think I will go Wed night to one of the leaders I used to have. But it means taking both my children as my husband has a meeting which goes a bit later.
I had forgotten this when I thought of going to this meeting. I do like having that time for me, so now I am unsure again. But I didn't go to my usual tonight, so I don't want to leave it too long before I go to a meeting again. I just don't know what to do now.

Some photos from yesterday

Nearly the end of another week

I did my Sri Chinmoy 4km race this morning. I came 25/27 runners with a time of 33 m 54 s. Not my fastest time, but its all good. I was disappointed at first. But I finished. I did walk 3 times for about 3o seconds each, but it was super hot, even at 8am.
I am much fitter than I used to be, but I need to work on my stamina now too.
Too slack to post todays menu, I am actually really tired from this morning, I got up at 4.40 am, which was much earlier than I needed to be up, but I was awake, so just got up.
Did go out for brunch in Bondi afterwards, but made healthy choices. Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and multi-grain toast. It was pretty good, but I don't think ill be eating smoked salmon too often.
I finished on 37-39 points again each day this week. That is a good number for me, im not starving hungry, but not eating more just because. Today actually I had 41, but that was because I had an extra coffee that I don't normally have (latte).
Exercise points earned was 16 for this week. 3 x runs and a pump class.
Next weeks aim is 3 x runs (one being Sunday for the running club) and 3 x pump class.
Going to a new (well old) meeting tomorrow night. I need to find a leader who is going to get me through this journey.

YAY!

I have a Garmin Forerunner 110 on the way.
I am very excited. Pretty basic, but I think it will suit my needs for now.

This humidity is awful.
This week so far has not been good exercise wise but I have time to make up for it. I have had 2 failed run attempts, which the heat made me stop.
I did manage to do pump this morning, which I am happy about.
Tomorrow night I will run, as late as I can before it gets dark to avoid the heat, although the humidity might still be around. Then Sat morning I will do pump, and Sunday I have a 4 km race.
Heres hoping for a good loss this week.
So slack with posting my daily menu though.

Monday, December 6, 2010

Lesson learnt

Do NOT run in the heat at 3 pm, stupid stupid idea.
I had to give up after 3 km, it was just too hot. I am still sweating a lot, guzzling down lots of water right now. 26 m 19 sec, what a slllllllloooooow time, but this heat is ridiculous. I walked the last km home.
I should have waited till after dinner when it was cooler. I guess during summer I should run before my husband goes to work.

Tonights meeting

Only 500g loss, bringing me to 91.5 kg. I just expected more.
Will come back to this later.

More detail about my gain after my first son

After my first was born I got down to 81 kg
Photobucket
It took me 14 long months to lose that 20 kg, I had just started running at this point and was also doing pump and cycle classes. I was starting to feel really good about myself and I was eating so well, still doing WW then.
I found myself pregnant, which was a huge surprise. After a very traumatic birth ending in an unnecessary c/s with my first son, I joined a home birth forum, as I wanted to have the next baby at home.
I got more into this forum, and went to meets, which was mostly fine. But this forum has the attitude that being fat is OK and you should accept it. I got majorly sucked into this attitude and stupidly gave up everything, the gym, eating well, and WW. That pregnancy did suddenly end, but I stuck with the forum, as I thought I had made some friends.
Around 4 months later I found myself back at just over 100 kg, I felt gross, so heavy, I couldn't move that well, I didn't have the energy to run around with my toddler, all the fatty food I was eating made me feel awful. I was so so stupid, to give up being healthy. Its NOT ok to be overweight and unfit. I was not a good role model for my child. Its not the forums fault I got sucked into those thoughts, and gave up. That forum was good for the birth trauma and home birth info, but I can leave the rest. The supposed friends I had made didn't give a shit about me, it seemed that I lived too far away from the rest of them to be offered support when stuck on the couch with morning sickness when I later got pregnant again.
So that is why I gained back all that weight I had lost, but never again. I want to be able to jump on my sons trampoline without breaking it. The weight limit is 80 kg. I want to run around and play on the floor with my sons. Its already much easier to do most of those things.

A bit of background

Quick back story, during my school years I was so called "normal" weight, but i didn't actually ever weigh myself, but I felt good and comfortable in my skin. I danced and liked running when I was younger.

Then I got into an emotionally abusive relationship pretty much straight out of school. I turned to food, and become an emotional eater, every emotion turned me to food and it was awful, I felt disgusting.
I got up to somewhere in the 90s kg, and not long out of this relationship I met my now husband. My weight did continue to climb since I could not get out of the emotional eating habit.
I got up just over 100 kg, and it was about this time we started to try for our first baby, after a year of no luck and after I had been in denial that my weight was stopping us, I joined weight watchers. I lost 6 kg and then fell pregnant. It all fell apart then, I used it as a licence to eat what I wanted and got to 122kg. *Warning a very very bad photo to follow:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i177/dou.../IMG_4376-1.jpg (posted the direct link incase no-one is game enough to look).
This is after a few kg had gone. I got down to 101 kg in about 2 weeks after my son was born, I guess most of the pregnancy weight was fluid etc. I re-joined WW, and over 12 months I lost 20 kg, I hovered around 81 kg for a long time. I had started running around here, and had gotten about half way through the C25K program and was really enjoying it. I also joined a gym when my son was around 1 for pump and cycle classes. I was feeling good and was so much fitter.

Then I stupidly got sucked into a really bad attitude that fat is OK and starting using that as an excuse to stop eating well and exercising. :(

My weight got back to where I started of 101 kg, then I fell pregnant again.
I did eat much better this pregnancy, although still got to 117 kg.

Again I lost my pregnancy weight fairly easy and joined weight watchers again at 102.3 kg. I don't have a pic from then that I can find. I am currently 92 kg with 30 kg to go to my goal.

Wed - 41
Thur - 40

Sun - 39

Again next week I think ill aim for 39, but if I need the extra couple I will eat them.

Bit of a ramble

Today I ran 5 km in my fastest time yet 43 mins 1o secs, I beat my last time by 30 seconds.
I earnt 4 exercise points for this run, I count them, but never use them.
I am currently on 44 propoints per day, but am using 39-41 of them. This week it has been a good number for me, as im never starving, and I know my milk supply is fine.
With the breastfeeding points they start at 7 extra and work up to 14 depending on your hunger levels and how much your baby is breastfeeding, mine is not a huge feeder like my first son and I know I don't need them all. According to WW "rules" you aren't meant to lose more than 500g per week, and I think they say this as your supply can be affected by losing large numbers every week. But I say be guided by your hunger. The first week eating the full allowance was too much for me, and I gained 100g. I was forcing myself to eat which is a habit I was trying to step away from. So last week I ate 38 which was still a good amount and I lost 1.3 kg. I decided to add 2 more points per day which is something I read from information my WW leader emailed to me. My current weight meant I lost a propoint, so with 2 more from last week I am on 39. 5 out of 7 days I ate 41 though, and I think I am also going to have a good loss this week. But I am following the program correctly and if I have another good loss then so be it. I am not starving and neither is my baby. I know I won't have good losses every week, but I have also done more exercise this week than previous, so that can have an impact. One week I lost 1.9 kg and my leader told me off. It was really disheartening. I can see WW point of view though on weight loss and breastfeeding, but I know my body and my baby, and if I have larger than 5o0g losses and my leader again tells me off, I will be letting her have it and then I will be changing meetings. If she isn't going to support me properly I will find someone who will. I know I am eating enough, but I also know these larger losses won't continue forever, so I am making the most of them. On days I need to eat more I will.

Where I am at

OK so I am 18 weeks into this journey into changing my life and becoming healthy.
So far have lost 10.3 kg since joining Weight Watchers, but 25.3 kg in total since I had Jacob 6 months ago.
Have lost:
1cm off my arms
10.5 cm off my hips
8 cm off my bust
14 cm off my waist
11 cm off my thighs

My fitness has increased so much. I did the C25K running program which is interval training. I then joined a running club, which I have done one 5 km run with so far, and will run once a month with them. In January I will increase to the 10km run each month, and for the last 2 months of the season do the 21 km. I am working towards a half marathon in July 2011 in the Gold Coast. We will also have a family holiday then, which we are all excited about.
I have also entered one race a month until Feb, and will enter the 2011 Sri Chinmoy season, probably the middle length races of 7-8 km, but ill see depending on when they are.
I will also do City2Surf (14 km) next year and by next summer I will do a full marathon (42 km).
I run 5 km 3 times a week (no point in doing shorter now, I was doing some 4km runs) and 2-3 pump classes per week. Awesome fat burning! At some point soon I will try to do an RPM class and a pump class one after the other on a Saturday.
I am very excited about doing this, my health is improving so much, and daily activities are now becoming much easier.
Monday nights are my meeting night, so will update on the results once I get home.
